Time gets away from me.\u00a0 Therefore, posting to this blog gets away from me.\u00a0 It\u2019s now May 11th, and I haven\u2019t posted since September.\u00a0 Most of my online activity is centered, for better or for worse, on Facebook; or for simple documenting of crochet projects, Ravelry.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ll occasionally dip into Discord for the Old Gods of Appalachia channel, but seriously, most of my online time is spent on the Book of Face. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Anyway – since I last wrote here, there have been a lot of crochet projects started, finished, put into hibernation, or just given up on.\u00a0 The loom has been sadly neglected over the winter, because our basement is just too cold to work down there. \u00a0 Well, and also I made the mistake of trying to do a project under a deadline, had to trash a warp, and walked away in disgust.\u00a0 Now I\u2019m about ready to tackle it again, but have decided to go back to what I know for the time being – worsted weight cotton, for placemats and table runners.\u00a0 I don\u2019t actually know anyone who doesn\u2019t need these items, so if I end up with a surplus, I have gifts.\u00a0 Then I\u2019ll work on some DK or worsted weight cheap yarn for scarves and see what that gets me.\u00a0 The fine stuff, for dish-towels, for right now\u00a0 is off the schedule.\u00a0 I want to enjoy the loom, not want to chop it into kindling.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to a dear friend who decided I needed to be introduced to the world of \u201cfancy\u201d yarn, I am now an addict.\u00a0 In addition to the five totes of acrylic downstairs, I now have a full basket of \u201cfancy\u201d yarn upstairs.\u00a0 What is \u201cfancy\u201d\u00a0 yarn?\u00a0 Well, in my case it\u2019s usually fingering weight, from indie dyers or brands like Malabrigo or Zen Yarn Garden.\u00a0 My sweet mother-in-love got me exactly what I asked for, for Yule – a gift certificate for yarn.\u00a0 She got it from Fabulous Yarn dot com, and that opened up yet MORE brands I fell in love with.\u00a0 I spent the certificate on two hanks of Zen Yarn Garden Serenity 20 merino, in Jazzberry.\u00a0 It will eventually become a shawl – probably using the Kizilkaya pattern from Andrea Cretu.\u00a0 I\u2019ve already made one thing with that pattern (Let There Be Green, my OGOA tribute)\u00a0 and have it memorized.\u00a0 It\u2019s a four-row repeat and very easy to do while listening to an audiobook or \u201cwatching\u201d TV.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I also subscribe to Hypnotic Yarn\u2019s monthly box, called Yarnable.\u00a0 It\u2019s been well worth the money, in my opinion. I get a full size (100 gram, about 400 plus yards usually) hank, plus goodies. Last month\u2019s goodies were a vial of bath salts, a stitch marker, and some stickers.\u00a0 In addition, I succumbed to Jimmy Beans Wool\u2019s\u00a0 Malabrigo Shawl Club.\u00a0 At $14 a month, this is the best value around. I got in late, so my first three shipments all came together.\u00a0 I got a Della Q. maker\u2019s bag, my three balls of Malabrigo sock\u00a0 yarn, stitch markers, etc.\u00a0 With this month\u2019s shipment I got a matching scissor pouch, complete with scissors, for the bag.\u00a0 I\u2019m also loving the jewel tone colorways they\u2019re sending me.\u00a0 I really want Jimmy Bean\u2019s Birthday Box for my birthday.\u00a0 31 days of boxes to open with yarn, notions, and more.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of my first forays into \u201cfancy\u201d yarn was with Expression Fiber Arts.\u00a0 I bought her Seashell Hues and the Melody Dora Hues kits.\u00a0 Seashell Hues was worked into the Free Spirit wrap by Kristina Smiley.\u00a0 I\u2019ve loved it and have worn it a lot.\u00a0 But I had enough yarn left for a whole other project, so the rest of it is being turned into an asymmetrical triangle shawl, in stripes. I haven\u2019t even wound the Melody Dora Hues set, I keep changing my mind on what pattern I want to use it for!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Current projects?\u00a0 Yes, I have them, *laugh*.\u00a0 Out the ears.\u00a0 But they’re getting their own post. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In other news?\u00a0 I have no spoons.\u00a0 Basically,\u00a0 my coping mechanisms are crochet, reading, and not participating in much else. \u00a0 News is just depressing.\u00a0 More COVID, more rights taken away, more encroachment by the far right that wants to turn us into Gilead.\u00a0 I\u2019m so done with all of it.\u00a0 But there are rants all over the internet, written by far more eloquent voices than mine, so I will express my opinion at the ballot box and try not to feel helpless.
